Red Cross, Cloud 9, ZTM pics

Hey Everyone!

One quick story: This week we have been focusing on looking through old records and trying to make sure no one has fallen through the cracks and finding those who have.  When we were trying to get in contact with one lady we found out she has actually moved to Colorado.  The family that lives in the house now though let us teach them a little and have invited us back tomorrow to learn more!!

I went on exchanges this week with Elder Memmott one of the ZL's.  We had an amazing time teaching and learning from one another.  We did some service work and than checked up on a less active family who the husband has brain cancer but he is still so optimistic.  His memory for short term is mostly gone but he still has a great sense of humor. Then we visited one of their investigators who is not progressing towards baptism but whose life is better because of the teachings of Jesus Christ we are able to provide for him.  We taught him about the Godhead and he loved it.  He had always been taught the trinity but when we explained it as three separate beings you could see it click and it was so awesome!  We stopped into a couple members' homes to challenge them to help with the missionary effort. Then Elder Memmott and I never having previously taught the plan of salvation together before had a wonderful lesson with their investigator Moses.  The spirit was so strong during the lesson Elder Memmott and I were able to flow smoothly together as we taught and testified.  We could feel the spirit testifying through us to Moses and his baby momma and two little boys.  The most amazing thing that happened during that lesson though is we saw a family pull together before our eyes.  We think he and his baby momma are divorced but she has recently come back into his life.  As we were there we asked her to read a verse of "I am a child of god" one of the sons asked if he could though.  We let him read it and the mother held him in her lap Moses put his arm around her and helped him pronounce words from over their shoulders and it was a picture perfect moment I will never forget.  Elder Memmott and I came out of that lesson on Cloud 9. Then to top everything off for exercise in the morning we disc golfed!

On Saturday half of the zone came to Columbus and we helped out the Red Cross.  We went out to low income communities and we installed smoke alarms for free. One in every bedroom of the house and one in a common area.  My group was so fast with our first route that we were assigned 2 and we ended up being out serving for 8 hours! It was a long and exhausting  8 hours, but completely worth it. You all just know though I am not just a super server but also a super missionary.  So while helping out the Red Cross we do not Proselyte that is not our focus.  We still wear our name tags in our service clothes though so we can be identified.  If people asked questions I am not, not going to answer them.  Me being the people person I am would be talking and heading up the project in the people's homes and we were with a set of missionaries serving in Columbus. I would talk, questions would arise, and I would get new potentials for the other Elders!

Also I gave a training this week in a Zone Training Meeting(ZTM).  Not a big deal, there are usually only like 40 missionaries there, but then President and Sister Grayson and some other office staff decided to stop in and surprise us.  Still not a lot of people, just more pressure to train well.  After I was done though I was very highly complimented, so I think everything should be okay!

Mom: umm the weather is cooler some in the mornings and evenings but still hits low 90's. When it is in the 80's though it is a gift!  Yeah we have been told to keep our gas tanks above 1/2  a tank at all times now!  I am glad you are feeling progress and getting things done at school and have friends to help you know what to do!  At Fort Benning my comp who is supposed to know what to do, does not and has a bad attitude towards the branch there, so he will not be going anymore.  So I have been trying to learn everything to do there and being that it has to do with the military there are a lot of procedures.  Yes got your package today! We were working too hard to catch it at the post office during hours yeah the slip has been in the mail box for awhile but I have to wait till we can catch the office open to trade the slip for the package! (Ok, not going to send him fresh baked goods anymore. The girls & I made him treats & they arrived in Cusseta on Wednesday, but he didn't pick them up until Monday---not so fresh anymore!!)
   Love you mom!

Dad: I feel the same way there was a lot that happened and it all feels so long ago already!  Rain can ruin a lot of things especially down here.  did you know Columbus, Ga actually gets more rainfall than Seattle, WA.  Seattle gets more consistent but Columbus when it rains here pours so HARD.  Love you dad!

Tali: Zupas without me? and how was conference? and how is Valhalla? Love ya!

G4: did you get the hiccups? I always get hiccups from rice and noodles!  I hope you feel better! Love you girl!

Tay: Dude I heard you got man of the match! You are just like Trav! You always do the big thing when momma isnt watching.  He always scored before she got there.  Hope your ankle is ok and you will be able to play in top condition!!!

Love you all!!!

Fort Benning

Hey everyone!

Ok so this week was way boring and not much has happened since the last time I emailed but here is what I have for ya.

The biggest thing that happened for this week is I got to go on Fort Benning.  This is one of the many military bases in our mission. (fun fact: our mission has the most military bases in it than any other mission in the world)  The Fort falls under Cusseta area, but on Sundays the zone leaders go on splits with us there and help us teach.  This week Was my first time and I loved it!  Most there are there for basic training and there are some RM's and some members, but some are less active members looking to get back into the church, and lots are investigators just checking out what we have to offer and it is sweet!  I was in charge of teaching the 3rd lesson to a group and at the end 2 of them came to me and said ok how do we get baptized?  That blew me off of my feet!  I filled them in on what they needed to know and their faces filled my heart with joy when I told them they can both be baptized in 4 weeks. They and the joy I saw fill within them is the reason missionary work is worth every drop of blood, sweat, and tears.

Cool story: Brother Ellsworth was really close to me! I am now serving with a sister that was in Albany, when I was in Valdosta, not to far away, in the same zone.  He was in Albany for work and bought them lunch and they found out they both knew me.

mom:What Kayla can't have a baby! and I think you should take it? that is awesome that Elder Phillips and I are related!!! (not really related, distant connection through his cousin Kayla's husband) We get along great!!! I am super happy to serve with him for a while!   We went on an exchange this week and that is when we were at Burger King.  I hope you can figure things out with and for Gracie. what's trav's address?  love you mom!

Tali: wow another little girl who likes old stuff?  and olive garden yuck!:p   Love you girl!

G4: I loved the picture you sent!! and wow a party week huh? Love you Grace!

Tay: Hey man Congrats on beating a good team!  and that does suck what is with the Leggs and their knees?  I love you bud!

Dad: that is awesome about the truck I hope it is able to get driving well again!  yes I got the pics they were great.  yeah the speedometer only worked when trav drove it and only for a bit and than on and off and never when I drove it.  yes there are a lot of immature missionaries. I am companions with one right now.  it makes working and enjoying your mission harder.  you kinda have to take all responsibility upon yourself and since it is meant to be shared it taxes a little more. The district is great. I love the elders and sister in it and get to see them often even though I am in the banishment area.:p  I have splits planned and love doing them. love you dad!

Love you all!!

Flynn Rider Meets Cusseta

Hey everyone!

I am emailing this on Tuesday.  Why? because my Pday is on Tuesday.....but only for this week. Yesterday we had a special mission conference where we had 2 members of the 70 come speak to us.  There were the newest general authorities called as of last conference Elder Meurs and Elder Uceda, both amazing men!  This is why our pday is on Tuesday for this week though.

Well Cusseta is a small town.  I was able to walk the entire thing in one day, and that is the story for just about the entire area we cover.  Since the population is so sparse we cover three different counties. Cusseta and some of the small towns we visit are very dead in industry and housing and everything else.  In Cusseta we have a Dollar General, the post office, a library, and the 4 Winds Restaurant.  My favorite little town to go to though is Buena Vista. Is is cute, and old, and the people are very kind and happy there.  Lumpkin is referred to as, even by the locals, Dumpkin.  A cool part of our area though is that we take in Fort Benning, an extremely large army base.  So we go to the Flat Rock Columbus ward on Sundays. And then after, go on splits with the Zone Leaders, and one of us and one of them go on base and teach the new recruits going through basic training. I did not go this week so I don't know exactly how it goes, but I will let yall know next we after I have.

I got a new nickname this week. There was a member who spends a lot of time with the missionaries and they thought I looked and acted much like Flynn Rider. So now I am called Flynn sometimes!:p
Yes, he's the Tangle movie smolder dude.  And I email at the the Chattahoochee county library in Cusseta.

This week was not only a mission conference but stake conference also.  Elder Meurs was the one who joined the Columbus stake for that.  This weekend we got to know him very well.  The young single adult branch was to sing during the Saturday evening session.  Well there are not very many young single adults in the branch, and since Columbus stake has like 40 missionaries, they "voluntold" us to sing with them as we showed up.  So it really turned out to be a missionary choir, with a few young singles scattered in.  Oh and crazy thing, the stake center here is almost identical to the Middleton stake center on the inside and the way it is set up, there are a few minor differences is all.  It kinda creeps me out!

Nothing else really too exciting happened this week though so that's all I got.

Tay: keep on trying your best and do not let the team get down.  be strong and be a leader.  work harder and be the example for others to follow in looking to grow better and better each week! love yeah bro!

Dad: it stinks not being able to go to the temple while here. but Elder setati of the 70 said it best "our work right now is for the living and we are not missing out on any blessings from the lord as long as we are magnifying our calling as missionaries."  The one restaurant in town has something called their famous ranger burger and it is supposed to be amazing so I have not gotten it yet but I plan on it!  love you!

G4: yes unfortunately down where I am at there are also lots of drugs.  everyone here is stuck with nowhere to go and nothing to do and they get into drugs and ruin there lives even more. so girl stay in school, keep busy, and always be happy and you will never have to worry about that stuff! love yeah!

Tali:you crazy girl don't you know 4wheelers are scary I would never have done that!;)  haha say "yeah right tyson!" nah I am just giving you a hard time I am glad you had a fun time!!:)

Mom: I got the package this morning from the post office. I got back to late to pick it up last night but there was a slip in out box telling us it was there waiting for me during business hours.  so we got is before emailing this morning.  It came on Monday but I got is Tuesday. Yeah where I am at is close to Auburn so still football crazy! plus I am close to Alabama so there is football pride everywhere here and there are always the hard core Georgians that claim the Dawgs will take the college championship every year and then they stink.  (I sent a package themed "It's Fall Y'all" & included a lot of football stuff since football was such a big deal & fall sport in Valdosta. I worried it wouldn't come in as handy where he is now, sounds like it will work out just fine) Well you will get back into the swing of things and find your conditioning again! love you mom!

Love you all!
